I booked an evening sail and curry with Challenge Wales for a family treat, for my parents, my teenage kids, husband and myself. None of us had sailed a 72-foot yacht before. We had a fantastic evening, The crew were friendly and helped us get involved with work on deck. To make sure the teens were kept active the whole time, they were allocated jobs and learnt new knots. We all had turns at the helm. We were looked after really well the whole time and the evening was rounded off with a delicious curry.
The impact of sail training on Challenge Wales has been amazing. Challenge Wales has been instrumental in supporting our programme to help young people lead independent and fulfilling lives.
When I was told that I had a place on the voyage from Milford to Cork and New Ross, I couldn’t believe it. Going on a sailing voyage was something I had always dreamed off, but never thought I would get the chance to do.
I really do think it will be a once in a lifetime opportunity. I know that not only will I improve my sailing skills, but the friendships and the shared experience will live with me forever.
If you would like to take a trip of a lifetime, I would recommend taking a sailing trip on Challenge Wales. The team will go the extra mile to make your experience one that you will never forget. From the moment my daughter and I arrived from the USA we were welcomed on board as if we were long time friends. The volunteers couldn’t have been any more helpful. No mater what level of sailing experience you have these people will make you feel part of the crew and help you along the way to make your experience a positive one. So if you are looking for an experience that will bring your group together as a team don’t look any further than Challenge Wales.
Well we sent a boy and a young man is returning. What an experience, we met him at Liverpool and he just talked and talked and talked about his trip, it was heart warming to listen to. As this trip comes to a close I would like to thank you (especially for the tweets), all the crew and any other volunteers involved in Challenge Wales for the time given to help our children discover themselves, life and a bit of adventure.
My partner and I were given a Challenge Experience Day as a birthday gift. Although we both had done a little sailing before we were a little nervous and didn’t really know what to expect. However, we needn’t have worried, our day aboard Challenge Wales was a perfect experience from beginning to end and a day that we’ll never forget! The fantastic skipper and crew allowed us to participate as much or as little as we chose. Nevertheless, the immortal words, ‘You’ll get out of this experience what you put in’ challenged us to grasp every opportunity; hoisting sails, taking the helm, tacking…even being hoisted to the top of the 95 foot mast. We experienced all types of weather on our day sailing: sun, wind, no wind, rain but the crew/boat was equipped to cope with all eventualities. Lunch was simple but delicious and making teas and coffees when we were under sail was a interesting and fun affair. The camaraderie of working together on a shared task, the conversation and laughs, the calm and restfulness is a perfect tonic for hectic lives. I would recommend a Challenge Experience Day on Challenge Wales to anyone and the only remaining question is when can we go again???
