Learn about STEM (science, technology, engineering, maths) in a way that is fun, find out more about life at sea, learn about teamwork skills, learn about the local area and what’s above and below the water, learn more about one-use plastic and environmental issues….with learning onboard Challenge Wales | Wales’ Tall Ship and in Cardiff Bay.

Our Sea & Tell nautical learning/ocean literacy sessions provide a great opportunity to learn outdoors while having fun.

Each 3 hour session is structured, and the programme tweaked according to the needs of the group and the learning objectives of the group but generally the sessions will also cover literacy, learning new skills such as tying knots, bring science to life, allow a safe space to learn and talk and involve a short microplastic survey on the path in Cardiff Bay. These activities do not involve sailing, so are open to more young people and a wider age range to join us.

How to join us?

Thanks to funding by Welsh Government’s Landfill Disposals Tax Communities Scheme (administered by WCVA) we can now open up more Sea and Tell shore-side sessions as part of a transformative educational Initiative; The Challenge Wales Clean Seas – Clean Shores project.

Learning sessions of 3 hours – for groups of young people aged between 12 and 25 years of age.

Only £30 PER group (of up to 12 people and group leaders – group sizes can vary and we may be able to accommodate slightly higher numbers depending on the age of the group)

    • Sessions are held on board Challenge Wales, based in Penarth Marina.  There is no sailing involved.
    • Sessions are held either morning or afternoon. Each session will finish with a microplastic survey guided by our crew
    • Shorter sessions can be accommodated by arrangement (2 hours but 3 hours are the optimum)
    • Pick your own date or choose one of our set dates in the calendar (all dates are subject to availability while funding is available)
    • Places are open to groups including home-schoolers, school groups, youth groups, uniformed groups and more…
    • If you are interested in booking more than one session then this can often be accommodated
    • Sea and Tell Sessions may be held at other marinas where Challenge Wales is berthed during her summer adventures, which will include Neyland
