Support Challenge Wales and help transform the lives of young people through outdoor learning enabling them to reach their potential.
Whether you’ve already started planning your fundraising activity or are looking for inspiration we’ve got a few ideas below.
You can fundraise at any time of the year, and you have the opportunity to help young people, through online shopping, shopping instore at one of several supermarkets, taking on a personal challenge, organising fundraising with friends or through work, sending greetings cards, Giving instead of Gifting, a Challenge Wales gift voucher or supporting our Challenge Wales Upgrade Campaign.
Get Quizzing
Get friends, family or colleagues together for a quiz. Maybe your local pub can host it?, Maybe a local cafe can host it in the evening when they would usually be closed? Maybe it’s a social evening in the office or at home showing off your quizzing skills and charge per team or individual to take part. Charge a fee per quizzer and maybe a few people can donate some prizes – particularly as all funds will be going to charity!

Sports Tournament / Games
Whether its a game of football, darts competition, skateboarding activity, local run, or a golf tournament, why not get together with some others for a sporty fundraiser. If you are a member of club, why not ask them to help? You can charge an entry fee, and once you’ve got a date, time and venue organised why not ask us for a poster to help you advertise it?
Step Into Fundraising
If you have an app that calculates your steps why not run a competition with friends or colleagues to see who can log the most steps, each month. You could donate a small prize to the winner (e.g. chocolates) and charge £5 each to enter for example. Stay fit and have fun raising money for Challenge Wales. If you enjoy running why not organise a running competition, instead of steps? For those not taking part, you could run a competition to guess the most number of steps or miles run in a month and donate a £1 to guess.
Fundraising A to Z!
The list could be endless for fundraising; Abseil or ZipWire and ask people to sponsor you. Ask people for donations instead of a Birthday gift, host a BBQ and ask for donations for food. Host a Coffee Morning or sell items at a Car Boot Sale. Have a Dress Down Day and pay a donation or sell items on Ebay. Get your school or group to put a Fashion Show on for donations or organise a Golf Tournament. Guess the weight of sweets or coins… for donations or donate an Hour of Your Pay and ask friends to do the same.
Shop Online with 6000+ Stores with Give As You Live
Shopping online this festive season? Whether shopping for a secret Santa gift, a family member, friend or yourself then raise free donations for Challenge Wales when you shop 6,000+ stores online using Give as you Live Online! Sign up for free here.
Host a Breakfast, Brunch, Dinner or Tea
Whether it’s an office brunch or breakfast or inviting friends around for a brunch, dinner or tea, why not cook up some food and either charge a set price or get people to pay what they think it was worth (no pressure there Chef!). A nice social way to raise funds for Challenge Wales. Maybe a local cafe or restaurant would like to help you host a brunch or a supper club as a way of showing their support?
Sponsored Events: From cycling to a Marathon
Depending on your ability, why not challenge yourself and raise funds at the same time? Sign up to a local ParkRun, a 10k, half marathon or marathon, set up a Justgiving Page to raise funds for Challenge Wales and then get sponsored. But it doesn’t have to be running, it can be cycling, walking, wheeling, swimming or a group fitness session. Why not walk, row, run or swim the distance that Challenge Wales usually sails in a year and complete your challenge over a few weeks? You could walk 80,000 steps (that’s 1 step for every mile Challenge Wales has sailed when she raced in two round the world races!)
Send Greetings E-Cards and donate the cost of the stamp
Ditch sending cards this year and make a difference to our charity and the planet with e-cards. Make a small donation and send your cards by email or Whatsapp. Easy. You can also send corporate cards this way too. Find us on DontSendMeACard.com here.
Challenge Wales Winter Upgrade Appeal
Why not donate to something specific? You can help our 2025 Challenge Wales Upgrade appeal. Helping us to continue to help young people in the future. You can read more and donate securely through Justgiving here.
Gaming for Good
If you are a gamer then why not help Challenge Wales stage a live gaming fundraising event and help us reach donors within the gaming community. You might like to organise something small yourself. Whether it is Minecraft, League of Legends or on game streaming platforms like Twitch and YouTube we’re keen to see how gaming can be impactful and support Challenge Wales.
CHANGE FOR CHANGE
Small amounts really do add up, so why not encourage people to fundraise by saving 1p’s, 2p’s and 5’ps and then at the end of the month donating them to Challenge Wales. You might want to do this at home, with friends and family or with work colleagues. Small change makes a big impact. You might want to call it a Penny Pot Challenge or a Penny Power Up!
Give instead of a Gift
Struggling to know what to get someone for their birthday or Christmas? Maybe you don’t want any gifts but want to feel you are making a difference. Donating on someone’s behalf can make you feel good, them feel good and can help transform a young person’s life – that sounds good for everyone! You can donate securely to Challenge Wales through Give As You Live or Justgiving. If you would like to donate towards something specific then why not donate to our Challenge Wales boat upgrade campaign. Find out more and donate here.
Speaker Talks
A great way for Challenge Wales to fundraise is to speak to other people and organisations. This could be U3A, sailing clubs, WI groups, Rotary Clubs or business groups to name a few. If you are part of one of these groups and are looking for a speaker for one of your meetings then we would love to get involved. Our Co-Founder will often visit groups for a minimum donation of £50 and will share the Challenge Wales story with you and the positive impact we have had. 100% of this donation will go to Challenge Wales!
Give the Gift of a Sailing Experience
Buy a Challenge Wales gift voucher which can go towards any of our adult voyages (for those aged 18 – 80 years). From day sails to 10 day adventures and shorter wildlife voyages too. All profits from our adult sailing experiences get donated to our youth development sail training programme helping more young people to experience outdoor learning. Email us or call us on 029 20 704657 to purchase. Gift vouchers can be for any amount.
From Baseball Caps & Buoyancy Aids to Water Bottles
A range of low cost watersports items are available to buy with an option to collect from the Penarth Office (near Cardiff). Baseball caps to dry bags to resuable waterbottles (Challenge Wales branded and larger unbranded bottles). Check out the items in our shop and contact us to enquire or place an order. We currently have some buoyancy aids available free of charge but a small donation is welcome and can be collected from the Challenge Wales office by appointment.
Give the Gift of your Time
Challenge Wales is reliant on its amazing volunteers. From crewing the boat, to helping with maintenance, to fundraising in the community. If you feel you have something to offer we’d love to hear from you. Volunteering not only helps the young people we support but is an opportunity to meet like-minded people, develop and hone skills while having fun. Find out more about some of our volunteering opportunities and apply to be part of our volunteer team.
