Shoreside volunteers

Simple steps in becoming volunteer crew

  • Complete a volunteer form and return it to the office
  • Book yourself on a voyage and have your skills assessed
  • Sign up to volunteer crew training
  • Liaise with Challenge Wales to co-ordinate your free Enhanced CRB (Criminal Record Bureau) check
  • Book yourself onto voyages you would like to do (the Skipper will match your skills and experience to the trip)
  • Decide if you want to be a member of Challenge Wales and save money on youth trips and receive other benefits.

Challenge Wales shore-side volunteers help run the office, manage customer enquiries, undertake calls to companies and individuals to keep our database updated, put funding bids together, have meetings with young people’s organisations, identify new business opportunities, speak to media and look after Challenge Wales marketing to name a few things. Sometimes we also have work placement and internships available (in conjunction with Universities). If you have a minimum of a few hours to spare and would like to get involved then please fill in the Volunteer form. You don't need to be experienced in administration roles to become a shore-side volunteer as training will be given. However, in some shore-side roles particular skills and previous experience may be required.

Work Placements, Internships and Secondements:

Sometimes there are opportunities to work for Challenge Wales in the form of a work placement or internship co-ordinated through your college, university or a secondement co-ordinated through your employer. There are limited opportunities each year but you will need to contact Challenge Wales to see if there is availability well in advance of your proposed start date. These opportunities are generally unpaid and for work placements and internships are often linked to experiential projects based around your coursework or degree.

Challenge Wales Champions (our supporters):

We realise it is difficult for many people to give up their time for us so there are other ways you can help us and champion the Challenge Wales charity. This may be simply telling people you have sailed on Challenge Wales, getting a company you know involved in supporting us or quite simply recycling your printer ink cartridges or instead of using Google to search the internet using our online search tool.
