We’re outward bound on the water and our residential voyages offer a learning experience and adventure for groups and individuals aged 16 – 25 years. If you are an adult group 18 – 75 then you can also book a residential voyage with us.
All voyages that are 5 days or longer can also qualify for Gold Residential DofE.

Remember, you can also create your own residential experience. Talk to us about the dates you want, the size of your group, where you want to go and we can see if we can fit it into our programme. Or, you can select a voyage from one already in our sailing schedule and book it out entirely for your group. Easy!

Penarth - Bristol Channel - Penarth Sunday 14th April

This is an ideal voyage if you are looking for a residential sailing voyage, or chance to complete your Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award residential trip.  Leaving Penarth  on Challenge Wales we will sail in the Bristol Channel taking in the islands of Flatholm and Steepholm before venturing further afield (itinerary will be confirmed).

Pirates and Plastic, starting Penarth, Finishing Milford Haven, 25th May to 27th May 2019

Sailing on Challenge Wales you will leave Penarth, heading west towards the Gower and Pembrokeshire coastlines.  This is an ideal trip if you would like to try adventure sailing, experience our beautiful coastline, or just get away for a few days on the water

Arriving into Milford Haven on the 27th May for the start of the Haven Festival.

Adult Voyage linked to 'Beyond the borders' literary festival Sunday 9th June to Friday 14th June 2019

Start/Finish Penarth Marina (near Cardiff Bay)
Jump aboard Adventure Wales for a residential voyage which is linked to the ‘Beyond the Borders’ literary festival.  You can get involved in all aspects of sailing a big boat, guided by our experienced crew.   Sailing along the South Wales coast will provide all the inspiration you need to write.  Suitable for everyone aged 18 – 75 years. No experience necessary.

Whisky, Wind and Waves Week: Belfast (Northern Ireland) to Oban (Scotland) | 11th - 18th June 2019

Start/Finish Belfast / Oban

If you like water with your whisky, or you like the wind and waves with fantastic scenery plus exceptional cruising then this is for you. Although this is a Whisky tour the visits to the distilleries are optional. This voyage will be on 72-foot Challenge Wales. 

Cost – £595 per person (plus an additional £9 – £12 per optional whisky tour which will be paid on the day)

Adult Voyage 'The Orkney Odyssey' Tuesday 18th June to Thursday 27th June 2019

Start/Finish Oban/Aberdeen
Jump aboard Challenge Wales  on this adult voyage to Aberdeen.  On our way we will visit the Toblemory distllery, Stornaway, Kirkwall (and its distillery) and then on to Aberdeen.  What better way to sample some ‘Uisge Beatha’ (water of life)  and explore the very north coast of Scotland. You can get involved in all aspects of sailing a big boat, guided by our experienced crew, and learn about whisky making.    Suitable for everyone aged 18 – 75 years. No experience necessary.

Aberdeen (UK) to Aalborg (Denmark): 27th June - 5th July 2019

The delivery trip into the Tall Ships Races is a great way to gain some sea miles and experience the start of this spectacular event. This voyage will include night sailing. This voyage is suitable for those aged 18 – 75 years / adult only.

Aalborg (Denmark) to Fredrikstad (Norway): 5th - 13th July 2019

This is Race 1 of the Tall Ships Races. You will set sail in the Parade of Sail and start to work with your fellow crew mates to race the boat. It will be fun and challenging. Throw in some spectacular scenery, amazing sunrises & sunsets, camaraderie and it becomes an adventure that will provide a lifetime of memories.

Fredrikstad (Norway) to Bergen (Norway): 13th - 23rd July 2019

Get ready for the Cruise in Company. Join us in the afternoon of 13th July, explore one or two of the spectacular tall ships before the Challenge Wales welcome meeting where you will meet your fellow crew. Learn the ropes and head off to sea in the spectacular parade of sail. Then it will be a time to explore some of the amazing ports in Norway and spot wildlife. if you are wanting to take part in the Tall Ships Races but aren’t looking for a competitive voyage then this is perfect for you.

Cost – £855 (different bursaries are available for this voyage including  one up to €500 if eligible)

Bergen (Norway) to Aarhus (Denmark) - 23rd July - 3rd August 2019

It’s Race 2 of the Tall Ships Races and a good opportunity for some exciting sailing to the finish port and the celebrations. You’ll be working in watches, as two teams and making lifelong friends along the way. In port, meet up with crews from all over the world and take part in the famous crew parade representing Wales and the UK.

Cost – £900 (different bursaries are available for this voyage including one up to €500 if eligible)

Aarhus (Denmark) to Amsterdam (Netherlands) 3rd - 12th August 2019

It’s our first Homeward Bound Leg. Take part in the Parade of Sail and wave goodbye to the amazing tall ships events. Before we set sail you will have time to experience the party atmosphere of this spectacular event.

Amsterdam (Netherlands) to Gosport (UK) 12th - 18th August

It’s our second Homeward Bound Leg.  Experience the sail from Amsterdam all the way back to Gosport, a great opportunity to develop sailing and navigational skills as we make our way back to the UK.

Cost – £560 (Different bursaries are available for this voyage if eligible)

Gosport (South England, UK) to Penarth (South Wales, UK) 18th August - 23rd August 2019

It’s our final leg home to Penarth.  Joining Challenge Wales in Gosport you will help crew the vessel back to its home port of Penarth, with an opportunity to see Lundy Island, an island host to seals, puffins and pods of dolphins.  You’ll sail along some of the most spectacular coastlines of Devon and Cornwall before experiencing sailing in the Bristol Channel.

Cost – £500 per person (bursaries are available for this voyage)

 

Colin Laidlaw Memorial Voyage, Tues 27th August - Saturday 31st August

This is a legacy voyage – In memory of a loved one the Laidlaw family and friends have been fundraising to enable young people to experience sailing and living onboard.  This is our second year running this voyage, and once again we look forward to welcoming young people on board Challenge Wales.
