The purpose of the role – The Mate is a key role supporting and assisting the Skipper in delivering the services of Challenge Wales. The Mate is required to live onboard the vessel during the normal operational season.

The role has been created as the Challenge Wales charity is supported by the European Regional Development Fund through Welsh Government and through the Social Business Growth Fund, which is managed by WCVA (Welsh Council of Voluntary Action).
Challenge Wales is currently looking for volunteer crew. This is an unpaid position and a minimum commitment is required. To be eligible to be a volunteer crew you need to have a minimum of RYA Day Skipper OR at least 2 years sailing experience and have a basic knowledge of sailing OR have experience in outdoor adventure, teaching, youth work or instructing OR been on one of our longer voyages of 3 days or more and been recommended by the Skipper to apply to be a volunteer.
